🚑 You witnessed or were in a road accident
⚡ Do this right now
- Check for danger first — move yourself and others out of moving traffic before anything else.
- Call for an ambulance immediately if anyone is seriously injured or unconscious.
📋 Step by step
- If someone is unconscious but breathing, don't move them unless they're in immediate danger (like oncoming traffic or fire) — moving an injured person incorrectly can worsen spinal injuries.
- If they're bleeding heavily, apply firm, steady pressure with a clean cloth.
- Note the vehicle registration numbers involved, and take photos if it's safe to do so.
- Wait for police to arrive to file the initial report, or go to the nearest police station if you were involved.
- If you're a bystander, stay until help arrives if you can, or make sure someone else has taken responsibility before leaving.
🚫 Do not
- Don't move a badly injured person unless there's an immediate danger like fire or oncoming traffic.
- Don't give an unconscious person food, water, or medicine.
- Don't leave the scene before speaking to police if you were part of the accident — this can be treated as a hit-and-run.
🎒 What you'll need
- Vehicle registration numbers
- Photos of the scene if safe to take
- Names/contacts of any witnesses
