🛂 You lost your passport or NID
⚡ Do this right now
- Stop retracing your steps randomly — first check every pocket, bag compartment, and the last place you sat down.
- If it's genuinely gone, treat it as stolen: your details could be misused.
📋 Step by step
- Go to the nearest police station and file a General Diary (GD) — this is required for any replacement.
- Keep a copy (photo on your phone counts) of the GD number; you'll need it for every next step.
- For a lost NID: visit the Election Commission's local office or use the NID re-issue service online with your GD number.
- For a lost passport: contact the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP), or your embassy if you're a foreign national, with the GD copy.
- If you're a foreign tourist, also inform your country's embassy or consulate in Dhaka — many can issue emergency travel documents.
- Cancel/freeze any bank cards that were in the same wallet, as a precaution.
🚫 Do not
- Don't wait a few days 'hoping it turns up' before filing the GD — replacement processes need it dated close to the loss.
- Don't share a photo of your NID/passport publicly while trying to 'ask around' — this exposes your ID number to misuse.
- Don't assume a photocopy is enough proof anywhere official — you need the GD.
🎒 What you'll need
- Any photocopy or photo of the lost document (front and back)
- GD number from the police station
- Proof of address / hotel booking (for tourists)
- A second form of ID if you have one

✅ After it's over
Keep the GD copy and any replacement receipts together — you'll likely need to reference this loss again when the new document is issued.
